Gaynor Simpson
Director of Public RelationsGaynor has over 14 years of experience within the public relations industry, having worked both in-house and agency-side on internal and external communications.
She started her career as an intern with PS Public Affairs in Edinburgh, where she worked on the Public Inquiry for the Scotland-Northern Ireland Electricity Interconnector and also on the PR campaign for Edinburgh's bid for City of Architecture and Design 1999.
She then took up a temporary post in the Communications Department at Scottish Nuclear, handling both internal communications and supporting the press office. Primarily responsible for the content of the company's monthly staff newspaper, she also worked on emergency training exercises and corporate sponsorship opportunities.
In 1996, Gaynor joined Spence Allan Associates, a small Glasgow-based public relations agency with a dedicated corporate events division. She worked on a number of consumer and business-to-business accounts, including Sports Division, Scottish Pub Week, Holiday Inn, The Avenue at Mearns Cross and Ramsay & Primrose Consulting Engineers.
Following redundancy in 1998, Gaynor joined the award winning agency Citigate Scotland as Senior Account Executive, where she managed numerous regional and national PR accounts, including Atlantic Telecom, Pret a Manger, Malmaison Hotels, SeaCat, Blackthorn Cider, CLIC Sargent, John Lewis and ASDA. Her remit included media relations, crisis management, events, sponsorship and new business development. In 2000, she was promoted to Senior Account Manager.
After leaving the agency in 2002, Gaynor worked as a freelance PR consultant for a number of clients, including Fred Macaulay, The Buttery and Harper Macleod LLP, providing consumer, trade and business-to-business expertise. She joined Voltage as Director of PR in 2007 and has been key in building the PR team.
